Team Van Oord’s Dutch partner Van Oord has commenced work on the installation of jackets at the East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm.
Van Oord was awarded a contract by ScottishPower Renewables in January 2017 for the transportation and installation of 102 three-legged jacket foundations for East Anglia ONE.
East Anglia ONE is located in the North Sea, 45 kilometers southeast of the town of Lowestoft in Suffolk. The wind farm will comprise 102 Siemens 7 MW wind turbines, with a total capacity of 714 MW.
This is the largest amount of three-legged foundations installed in a wind farm anywhere in the world. Once operational in 2020, East Anglia ONE will deliver sustainable energy to 500,000 households.
Van Oord is responsible for the logistics of all jacket foundations and piles, which are being installed at depths of down to 55 metres.
Van Oord’s heavy lift vessel Aegir started placing jackets from the transport barges on to the pre-installed piles in late July.
12 jackets have already been successfully installed on the pre-installed piles, and remainder of the work will be completed in a series of phases over the late summer and autumn of 2018.
