Team Van Oord has been awarded the Kier Group “Gold Flag” standard for achieving 12 months’ work on behalf of the Environment Agency without a single ‘lost time injury’ and no environmental incidents.
The Annual Kier SHE (safety, health & environmental) Awards are designed to promote a positive SHE culture and to recognise the standards being achieved within Group businesses and Kier joint ventures such as Team Van Oord.
There is a range of awards available, with Gold being the top award which is only given to businesses that achieve either 12 months or one million man-hours without an injury or environmental incident.
Wayne Cahill, SHE advisor for Team Van Oord, said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our employees, and the communities in which we work, is our utmost priority. Nothing is more important to us than ensuring that everyone goes home safe and well at the end of each and every working day.
“We strive to achieve an exemplary health and safety record and take a proactive approach to implementing best safety practice. All of our employees and supply chain commit to the principles of Safety is Paramount, the Environment Agency’s SHE Code of Practice.
“For more than 12 months there has been not a single ‘lost time’ environmental incident or RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) over a number of high profile Environment Agency sites, including the £18m Steart Peninsular project, which received the Environment Agency’s 2013 Health, Safety and Environmental Exemplar Award and, prior to that, was named an ‘exceptionally good site’ by the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS).”
Hugh A Barrs, Group Director Safety, Health & Environment for Kier Group plc, said: “Many congratulations to Team Van Oord – a great achievement. I fully support the award of the Gold Flag.”
