Team Van Oord is utilising a resource developed by the Environment Agency to reduce carbon in the flood prevention and coastal management projects it delivers.
The Environment Agency’s new Carbon Planning Tool – which incorporates a carbon calculator and carbon modelling tool – has been christened ‘Eric’.
Eric comprises a suite of planning tools to help achieve the Environment Agency’s ‘e:Mission’ target of a 40% reduction in capital carbon by 2020.
Phil Ramsay, Team Van Oord National Framework Manager, said: “Our Environment and Sustainability Policy challenges us to manage the sustainability issues arising from our construction projects, including minimising carbon throughout our supply chain.
“The Environment Agency’s new resource ‘Eric’ can help our project teams make informed decisions on carbon throughout the project life cycle.
“Eric shows how much carbon a particular project will produce and, by making changes, how we can proactively challenge the solution being implemented before starting work.
“The overall aim is reducing our whole life carbon, in partnership with the Environment Agency.”
